1. The Web Developer’s Toolbox for Firefox

The Web Developer’s Toolbox for Firefox is one of the tools every designer should have. There are many useful Firefox extensions but this one is a jewel because it combines so many functionalities a web designer and developer needs on a daily basis that after you install it you will wonder how you could have worked without it. It contains a bunch of useful extensions, which of course you can download separately if you want but why do it, when you can get the whole pack at once?

2. A Tool to Generate Palettes of Matching Colors With

Design is about colors and their masterful combination. Very often you will need to design a site, which uses different shades of the same color. 9. A Tool to Create a Color Palette from an Image

Sometimes you have a cool photo you would like to use as a source of colors for a color palette. While you can pick colors one by one, this is hardly the most efficient way to do the job. One of the better ways to get a color palette from an image is to use a tool.

Pictaculous is one such tool. All you have to do is go to the site and upload your image. Then the tool will automatically generate a color palette from this image. Depending on the image you upload, the choices might not be what you imagined but you can hardly blame the tool for that.

10. Lossless Image Optimization with Smush.it

Images can get very fat and this is a problem because when image files are large, it will take ages for the site to load. Sometimes you can optimize an image to make it smaller but usually smaller size leads to reduced image quality. Reduced image quality might be acceptable in certain situations but generally why accept it when there is a better way to do things?

Smush.it is a Yahoo service you can use for free and compress your images without impacting their quality in a negative way. The algorithm used by Smush.it is really good and this is why lossless image optimization is possible.

With all the news about a lot of Indian firms laying off their workforce are these signs of a low in IT sector. Well, following is what news agencies are reporting.

Satyam Computers has just started giving pink slips to its employees, could potentially downsize its workforce by a whopping 4,500 employees.

Hewlett-Packard Co plans to cut 24,600 jobs, seeking to realize savings from its recent acquisition of Electronic Data Systems Corp.

Patni Computer Systems sixth-largest exporter has laid off close to 400 employees citing non-performance issues.

The country’s second-largest software-services company plans to recruit 25,000 people this year. Infosys may also recruit about 1,000 workers in China in the next two to three years.

Wipro Technologies has put about 4-5% of its workforce, about 2,400-3,000 employees, under the scanner for non-performance.

These figures which are quoted by IndiaTimes are alarming. I am sure they suggest a recession! I am not sure if under performance is one of the reason. The unfortunate part about cheap labour is that you compromise on quality and hence none of the Indian IT giants can claim to have a technologically advance projects. Have we seen any organization developing an Operating System. I guess that gives a picture of security in such jobs.

My opinion doesn’t apply to any individual, it’s a macro level perspective and I could be utterly wrong. But I still would take my chances of making a point here.

The most awaited cell phone of all time was finally launched in India. The Apple iPhone is an internet connected multimedia phone with a flush multi-touch screen and a minimal hardware interface. It has some really good features. The phone includes a camera, media player (equivallent to i pod), voice mail, email, web browsing, wi-fi connectivity and many more. But does it really worth for the money you spend?

Have a look at the things you cannot do with iPhone.

Apple’s 3G iPhone lacks so many features which are found in most cell phones available in market. The features missing are:

1. No provision for video recording: Thinking of re-collecting the memories by recording it in your camera, well, iPhone will disappoint you. So stop thinking of planning video conference in your expensive gadget. This is quite disappointing as video recording option is found in most cell phones.

2. Camera-Flash and zoom is missing: There was speculation that iPhone will go for some what higher resolution, but it has disappointed as it has the same 2Mp camera found in most of the lower end phones.

3. Does not support copy and paste: So next time if you are planning to save some time by copy and paste option, you may end up wasting your time. Imagine that one cannot delete a line of text. Lacks the feature of multi-select. So you need to be patience enough and have lot of time deleting  the mails in bulk.

4. Cannot send MMS and forwards: Many of you will shock after hearing this, but its true. Of all things, one cannot simply forward a text message. Users can only send text messages or snapshots via email. Also, don’t think of sending a SMS to multiple contacts as iPhone has no option for that either.

5. Lacks voice dialing: iphone lacks support for voice dialing which is again found in most of lower end phones.

6. Cannot change battery on your own: If one is having problem with the battery, your problem has doubled here as you cannot change battery of iPhone by your own. You will have to send your phone to an Apple outlet.

7. Cannot synchronize with wireless modem: Apple has no path to support for wireless modem. So get ready to pay heavy amount for the data usage.

8. Does not support the option of bluetooth file sharing: Apple iPhone does not have the option to sync with bluetooth stereo. It is surprising that one cannot share mp3, videofiles and images via bluetooth.

9. Does not support flash files: If you are thinking to view multimedia files that require flash, well you will again be disappointed. While browsing, web pages with adobe flash will be shown as empty spaces with missing icons.

10. Does not support the option to customize ring tone. Almost all cellphones have multiple profiles and option to edit or create more. However, the iPhone comes only with two options: ring or silent. Users cannot download ring tones from anywhere except iTunes.

Internet and Youth: Internet is a great source for all of us and is useful in many ways like:

Apart from these internet can also be a threat to all of us, and to especially our children’s safety and well being. According to a study a youth spends an average 17 hours online weekly- more than they do watching TV. With this much time devoted to internet its safer that parents have some idea and keep track on what their kids are doing. Apart from this one can one can easily get into trouble by sharing their personal information, trusting fake information, doing online shopping and the list is never ending. So what one can do to help kids use internet safely? Here are some of the solution:

1. Set duration for the internet usage.

2. Keep track on the site the child is visiting.

3. Keep the computer in the area where it can be viewed by everyone.

4. Keep watch of the activities whether leagal or not. Make sure the child does not break any law.

Before going to answer this question, let us just list out the type of fuel presently we are using and what are the alternative fuel that can be used. Since the industrial revolution crude oil is main source for power generation.  We all know crude oil is fractional distilled and we get products like diesel, petrol, natural gas, LPG, kerosene etc. These products are the main source of power generation. The two main reason for the increase in fuel price is the increase in demand and the second one is the rate at which we are consuming oil, will make diminish it one day.

So one of the way to restrict hike in oil price is to look for an alternate means of generating power keeping in view the environment. Let us now list out some alternate fuel that can replace oil. Later we will see there effect on environment.

1.Bio diesel oil.

2. Fuel cell.

3. Nuclear power.

4 .Hydrogen fuel.

The next question which arise is that  whether a car can run on nuclear power or on hydrogen fuel. Biodiesel and fuel cell as we know has been used to run vehicles. So let us see the other two options (3 and 4). In 1950s, Ford produced a concept car called the Nucleon, intended to run on nuclear power, but the vehicle was never produced. The idea of using nuclear energy as fuel for cars can come by just thinking from the fact that how nuclear reactors were employed beyond tradition plants in submarines, aircraft and aircraft carriers. One possibility is nuclear reactors could be used to charge highly efficient batteries for cars.

Our main aim is to replace hydrocarbon oil with a much clean fuel and the current focus is on biofuel. But imagine if biodiesel comes into effective use, it will definitely solve the oil and climate crisis. But again it will raise a big question? The question is won’t it encourage deforestation. These would occupy the land which would otherwise be used to grow food.

In a long run we will have to think of using nuclear fuel as a source of generating power. There are always pros and cons with every system. The main advantage would be the power that can be produced. The car would rarely needed to refueled (once in 3 to 5 years). The car if properly shielded would  emit almost no emissions.

The main drawback would be radioactive emissions for which it has to adequately shielded. This will be major task in developing nuclear powered cars. Also discharging the used fuel will need some serious planning. A gentleman from Erie named John Kanzius made a somewhat “shocking” discovery while he was working on a radio-wave generator he had developed for the treatment of cancer. While attempting to desalinate sea water using radio frequencies, he noticed flashes, and within a few days, had saltwater burning in a test-tube as if it were a candle.

Though hydrogen is the most abundant element on earth, the cost incurred in producing it is more. We need to look for a better way of producing hydrogen gas from water.

We hope nuclear and hydrogen powered driven vehicles will soon be in action thereby giving our next generation a clean, more efficient and eco friendly cars, solving the problem of oil crisis and making earth a better place to live.
