Should Vespa LX 50 be launched in India?
Should Vespa LX 50 be launched in India? Gap a clothing brand has dressed up a striped Vespa LX 50. It was launched in US last year. The bike is no different from the standard LX model. Gap’s, custom striped Vespa priced at $6000 was much higher from the previous version ($2000 dollar more than the standard LX 50 model ).
The launch of bikes from leading brand like Bajaj, Hero Honda, Honda motors and others have taken the two wheelers to the next level. With this competition, can Vespa LX 50 make an impression in India. Let us have a look at the salient features of this.
1. Disc brake. The front has 7.8″ diameter disc, with hydraulic linkage and a dual opposed piston hydraulic caliper. The back has a 4.3″ diameter drum with mechanical linkage.
2. Dash board and lights. Wide arc headlight with halogen lamp which gives great illumination in night and shines during day too.
3. High performance, single chassis engine. (1-cylinder 4-stroke catalytic HI-PER4, single overhead camshaft (SOHC) with 2 valves)
4. Automatic transmission and good acceleration. It is good if one has to cover small distance. Restriction on speed is a drawback (62 km/hr). But then, it is quite good keeping in mind a 50 cc engine.
5. The scooter is light weight (102 kg) which gives it an edge (leads to good mileage) but the body is in one piece, replacing the damaged part is a tedious job and is a disadvantage.
6. Suspension: Front, Single arm with helical spring and dual-effect hydraulic single shock absorber
Rear, Coil spring and dual-effect single shock absorber.
7. LX 50 comes with electric and kick start.
8. Tubeless tyre.
Vespa LX 50 has other verions like Vespa LX 125, LXV 50, LXV 125 and many more. It has great features in his class of two wheeler. You can select among these, depending on the usage. Vespa has great features and by employing some more latest technology, launching this in India would not be a bad idea.
